The Colorado Aviation Hall of Fame (CAHS) was created in 1969 to honor individuals who have made significant contributions in the field of aviation in Colorado. It is an ongoing activity of the CAHS. The purpose of this guide is to outline the requirements and procedures to nominate an individual to the Colorado Aviation Hall of Fame.
The nomination process is governed by the CAHS, By-laws, Article X, Section 2., Standing Rule Number 2, February 4, 1996.
The criteria for selection are that an individual Colorado person, native-born or long-time resident, or a Colorado organization, has made significant contributions in the field of aviation in Colorado or has accomplishments in aviation that reflect great credit upon Colorado. It is essential that the information included in the book make special emphasis of aviation accomplishments in Colorado. The selection committee will also evaluate the accomplishments of the nominee in other walks of life that demonstrate character and leadership. When composing the 3-ring binder that is given to the Society, care should be taken to demonstrate the connection of the individual to aviation accomplishments in Colorado.
There must be a principal sponsor who has the knowledge of the nominees’ accomplishments and background. The principal sponsor should be willing to speak on behalf of the nominee at the Hall Fame Banquet. Please note that a person who is a principal sponsor may be a principal sponsor for only one nominee per year. Additional sponsors or co-sponsors are encouraged to join in making a nomination and to write testimonials to be included in the binder. The sponsors are responsible to validate the suitability of a nominee for Hall of Fame honors.
The nominee should have made contributions in at least one of the eleven items listed in paragraph IV, C. Nominee. The person or organization may be nominated for contributions made in at least one of a variety of areas, but the contribution is not limited to contributions which are listed.
If the selection committee determines that the nominee is very close to qualifying but may not be fully qualified, they may nominate the individual or organization for a special recognition award from the Society. This should not be viewed as a rejection of the nomination. Careful review and revision of the nomination package and the passage of time may result in the successful approval of the nominee for selection at a later time.
